My Approach

Generally, and most importantly, my goal is always to support people in feeling more empowered, aware, and balanced -- mind, body, and spirit. I take an insight-oriented approach, with the goal of supporting clients in resolving conflicts and developing a more cohesive sense of self. I work dynamically, which means I help clients to better understand their inner worlds and how their inner terrain shapes their daily lives. We may explore together how pivotal life events have influenced your life with an eye toward freeing you up from the sense that you can’t get beyond the history of those painful experiences. For clients who are experiencing distressing symptoms, I focus on the underlying causes with the aim of symptom relief. I utilize an integrative approach that is oriented toward dynamic insight, mindful awareness, release, and integration of old wounds and traumas and somatic experience.  I may utilize dynamic insight, mindfulness, somatic practices, and dream analysis, as well as art and music, poetry, astrology, psychodrama, or other techniques, depending on what I think might support the client in finding deeper meaning, self-understanding, and desired behavioral change.

 

I believe humor can be of value in psychotherapy. If used with wisdom and compassion, it can have therapeutic effects including reducing tension and promoting relaxation. I will sometimes use gentle levity to break the ice, lessen anxiety, and bring attention to familiar yet hard to change patterns of behavior.

 

People come to my office with a variety of concerns related to relationships, identity, spirituality, career, self-development, or life purpose.  Others may be seeking relief from trauma response patterns, anxiety, or depression. In a rapidly changing and tumultuous world, people often feel comforted and stabilized by the presence of a therapist who can provide a safe enough space to understand themselves, resolve conflicts, relieve anxiety and depression, and live with more coherence and freedom from unfulfilling relational patterns.  I listen with an intuitive and compassionate heart and give you tools to navigate through stressful times with greater resiliency and embodiment.
